LOOKING AHEAD

November 9 - The November meeting of the BLCO will be on November 9 instead of on the first Sunday of November. The meeting will be at 1:00 PM at the Christ
United Methodist Church, 1480 Zettler Road, Columbus. There will be a Show Wrap-Up meeting and a regular BLCO meeting. Special note to new members:
Enter the driveway of the Church at 1480 Zettler Road, and drive around to the north end of the parking lot. There is a rather plain door near the north end of the building and the room where we hold our meeting is just inside the door.
At the November meeting we will vote on whether or not to retain Allan Scheiderer as President and David Scheiderer as Treasurer of our guild for another 2 year term.
December 6 - The BLCO Christmas Party Meeting will be at 5:00 PM at the Prairie Township Senior Citizen’s Center, 4616 West Broad Street in Lincoln Village

REPORT ON THE BLCO GUILD MEETING HELD ON OCTOBER 9, 2008

Sandy Nowacki gave a demonstration on coloring leather, including use of various leather dyes, stains, acrylics, magic markers, etc. She also showed various types of brushes and brushing techniques - including how to load brushes and the advantages of sometimes using a dry brush
Sandy also talked about the high cost of having pictures framed and said she buys frames at garage sales and picture mats on sale at Michaels. Sandy showed several pieces of her work to illustrate her presentation. Bill Brown added suggestions. He said he paid $45.00 to have his John Wayne Picture framed.
Bill Brown showed a wallet. Allan Scheiderer showed several note pad covers and a stamped belt he has made to order for a customer. He described the way he has finished them and the dyes and finishes he used on the pieces he showed.
` Bill Brown asked advice about dying an item he is working on..

MINUTES OF THE BLCO BUSINESS MEETING HELD ON 10-12-08

Allan Scheiderer called the meeting to order. The minutes of the September meeting were approved as published. The Treasurers report was read and accepted.
Allan asked for comments on the IFoLG Show.
Bill Brown reported on publicity. He said some of the publicity work he did was good, and he had some regrets. Several people came as a result of his more personal publicity, including one person who came from Zanesville and only saw the Competition entries. Of course the publicity groundwork which Fred Kilburn did was very fruitful.
Several former BLCO members we had not seen for a long time, attended the Show. These included Karen Shaner, Cindy Elson, Delsha Dixon, Doug Fratus and Jim & Jeanie Starr.
David Scheiderer reported on the work of the Treasurer. He said the banquet tickets should have been collected as people entered the banquet room.
Carol Martin regretted that the Competition rooms were so crowded. Many of us wish that all three competition rooms we had planned would have been used, as the entries would have shown better.
Bob Kour is the gentleman who had rented a vendor table, then discovered he had cancer and his doctor forbade him to come. Carol circulated a card, which several people, signed, and she sent it to him when she returned his money. He sent a card, thanking us for our concern over his illness..

Don Martin wants to thank Jay and Robin for helping him through the show - his asthma had really kicked in.
Bill Gomer commented on the crowded competition room.
Mark thinks the show went well - because of the support of the people at the meeting today and their families and friends.
Sandy liked the bit of Magic which Mark did at the show. Wants to thank John and Gloria Weese who brought the Awards Ceremony to life with the pictures,.
Robin said that several people mentioned how much they enjoyed the pictures at the Awards Ceremony. Bobbie was also impressed with the pictures.
Don and Mark mentioned how grateful they were for the work Bobbie did.
Allan thanked Sandy for her work with the Hospitality Room.
Jay thinks we did a good job, only heard three criticisms and many compliments..
Tom said it was the first and only IFoLG show he had attended and he liked it.
Allan said regarding the Competition Rooms, if we had used all three rooms, it would have made it a bit harder for Judging, but so much better for viewing the entries.
Allan sent things back to the Internet Guild.
Carol said that fourteen people mailed in entries.
Some people thought they should have been able to set up their Guild Tables Thursday night. The Show did not really begin until Friday.
Someone said: John and Gloria were fantastic.
Thanks to David Scheiderer for handling the money,.
We heard many compliments on Tom Wilhelm’s Saddle Making Demonstration.
Fred and Mary Ann Kunig were especially grateful for that demonstration.
Sandy and her team did a fantastic job of handling the Hospitality Room. Carol Martin and Bobbie Medina were special heroines of the Show. Robin’s signs made it so easy to know where everything was. Everyone who helped did a great job. Several people who were from other Guilds were also helpful.

The financial report on the show is not final - should be at the next meeting.
There were four full page ads in the program booklet.
212 people registered at the show. Carol had 173 sent in. Some overlapped.
There were 84 entrants with 206 Competition entries.
Mark moved that John Weese be given the equal of one complimentary room at the Hotel. Motion carried. David will send a check.
Carol moved that when show expenses are wrapped up, that the money from the Show Account be transferred back to the Regular Guild Treasury and we give the seed money back to the IFoLG. Motion carried.
After some discussion it was decided to have the regular November meeting on
November 9, beginning at 1:00 PM, followed by a wrap-up show meeting.
Allan asked how people would feel about having a banquet to include people (friends and relatives) who helped us with the show, in addition to our Guild members.
Don moved we do that, and several seconded the motion. We discussed various options - places where we could have the banquet and non Guild Members we would especially invite. These include; Mark’s neice, Vickie & Rod Williams; Vickie and Sandy’s sister Cindy, Sandy’s friendr Sarah, Gloria & John Weese; Bill’s brother. We would also invite member’s of the families of: Thomas Putinsky, L. Jay Vannoy, Tom Wilhelm, Bobbie & Manny Medina, and Robin Johnson. Fred and Mary Ann Kunig were also mentioned. They are guild members, but live so far away they do not attend our regular meetings, but help with our outreach demonstration table at the Ohio State Fair and did a great deal to help with the show. They will be especially invited. All of our new members will also be invited. It will be a good time for them to get to know us better.
It was decided that rather than have an extra banquet we will have the food catered for the Christmas Party meeting on December 6. Carol Martin volunteered to check places and prices to have this done,.
We need a nominating committee of three people to nominate candidates for the offices of Treasurer and President.
Carol moved that we suspend the rules of the Constitution for this one time and retain the same President and Treasurer for another 2 year term. Many seconded the motion. Motion carried. The Secretary needs to let everyone know that we will vote on this at the November meeting.
We voted to keep our Website.

Regarding our Display Rack. George purchased the pipe and cut the pieces to it and Peggy Edwards put the new backing on it. The backing cost $69.17 (and is beautiful) and the PVC Pipe for the frame cost $42.39. It was moved and seconded that the Guild pay for it. Motion carried.

A motion was made to not loan out the new rack unless a Guild Member was willing to be responsible for it. Motion carried.
Don Martin moved that we pay the Church for the use of the Church. Motion carried. We will pay them $200.00 for the use of the Church during 2008 and 2009.
We talked about Christmas Party entertainment. Bill Brown and Jeramy Medina play the guitar, and his sister plays the Chello.
There are three items left over from the Show Raffle. They will be used as door prizes at the Christmas Party.
January 31, 2009, will be the Simon Kenton University of Scouting at the Reynoldsburg High School. We need to contact them again to let them know we are willing to help with that program.
Mark’s niece attended Jim Linnell’s Class and enjoyed it very much.
Tom Wilhelm got the Martins interested in Heritage Days in Grove City, on October 5th. . Robin Johnson, Fred Kilburn and Dee McKeen also helped. They let kids make key fobs - 150 of them. There were many other activities, such as soap making, carriage rides, etc. It was from 12:30 to 5:30. It is a yearly thing. They are trying to get a whole village set up in future years.
Remember that the November meeting will be on the 9th instead of the 2nd of November.
Respectfully Submitted,
Geraldene Pittenger
