SPECIAL NOTICE
The October BLCO meeting will be on October 12, instead of October 5. The
meeting on October 12, will be at 2:00 PM at the Christ United Methodist Church,
1480 Zettler Road, Columbus, Ohio.
Welcome to the three new members who recently joined our Guild, but who have
never attended one of our monthly Guild meetings. Welcome also to other
potential members who we hope will attend the October Guild meeting. When you
enter the driveway of the Church at 1480 Zettler Road, drive around to the back
of the church and park near the north end of the building. There is a rather
plain door near the north end of the building, and the meeting room we use is
just inside.
The majority of our monthly Guild meetings are held on the first Sunday of the
month, at 2:00 PM, at the Christ United Methodist Church, 1480 Zettler Road in
Columbus. Because of some holidays, the dates of the Ohio State Fair, etc.,
there are usually two or three meetings a year when the meeting is held at a
different time or place. The October meting is being held on the 2nd
Sunday, instead of the 1st Sunday, to give members who have been
spending so much time recently preparing for the IFoLG Leather Show, to have a
breather before the October meeting.

A Note from the President of the BLCO
I want to personally thank everybody who helped in any way with the Magic of
Leather Federation Show. With everybody’s help the show was a huge success. I
know many people put in countless hours of work. At the October 12th
meeting we should have a preliminary income and expense report.
Sincerely,
Allan M. Scheiderer
President
Another Note
If anyone has any outstanding expenses, please send them to David or bring
them to the meeting on October 12th. Thanks. Allan

MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER BLCO MEETING HELD ON SEPTEMBER 7, 2008
The September meeting of the BLCO began with show and tell. Hank Edwards
brought a head knife with a leather cover. He also brought leather covers for
some Alaska knives, which are basically like head knives.
Allan Scheiderer brought several belts and a billfold to show Allan and David
are going to Los Angeles, California to watch the USC game next Saturday. Allan
made an attractive Buckeye belt to wear to the game. The belt did not have a
logo or anything which would be unlawful to copy. It would just show where he is
from. I am sure he will enjoy wearing it at the game. We talked about how people
have gotten in trouble by copying emblems when they do not have permission to do
so.
Allan also showed a Leathercrafters and Saddlers Journal holder, which he is
going to donate to the raffle at our show.
Bill Brown has entered a buckle, wallet and picture in the IFoLG Show. He also
showed a cell phone case he had recently made. Bill demonstrated how to make a
leather credit card holder to be inserted into a wallet. It would have tiers for
holding a few credit cards. Bill showed how it could be made larger to fit into
a clutch purse.

Allan Scheiderer opened the formal part of the Guild Meeting. Eighteen
members were present.
There were no corrections to the September Topcutter. The Treasurer’s report was
read and approved.
The secretary has contacted people, interested in leather, whose names we
gathered at the Simon Kenton University of Scouting.
Page 2
The Buckeye Leathercrafters were represented every day at the Ohio State
Fair. The people in charge of the Arts and Crafts Building were pleased with our
participation.
Mark had a one minute segment on Channel 4. Channel 4 may have someone at the
IFoLG show - if it is a slow news day.
George reported that he has made a new backboard stand. Peggy Edwards has
purchased fabric to cover it. She was able to get beautiful, sturdy fabric which
looks like a rich brown suede. It is strong enough to support double strength
Velcro to hold things.
Fred has asked to have his name removed from our membership list.
We need to appoint a nominating committee. A motion was made to delay appointing
a nominating committee until the October meeting . Motion carried.
Don Martin moved that we hold our Christmas Party Meeting at the Prairie
Township Senior Citizen’s Center on West Broad Street, near Harbor Freight.
Carol and Don looked at the place and talked to those in charge. We would need
to pay a $100.00 deposit. It costs $25.00 an hour to rent the place. The $100.00
would pay for four hours, which would be plenty of time for our party. There is
a refrigerator and plenty of counter space, restrooms, plenty of parking, etc.
We would actually be allowed to come in before 5:00 PM to begin to set up things
if we want to do that. We talked about having it in the party room of the Church
where we usually meet, but in the end we decided to have it at the Senior
Citizen’s Center. Carol had already had them reserve December 6. David will
write a check for the $100, and they will ink in our reservation instead of it
being penciled in - for Saturday, December 6 at 5:00 PM. The place will be
comparable to the lovely place Fred has furnished for us for the past several
years.
We need to decide if we will have a website next year. Will decide that at the
October or November meeting.
A motion was made to have Allan Scheiderer and Bill Brown to be our delegates at
the IFoLG business meeting. Bill said he would rather not attend it. Mark was
willing to go. Motion was amended to have Allan and Mark be our delegates at the
meeting.
Our next regular BLCO meeting will be on October 5th. However there
will be show meetings on September 14 and September 21. (At the Show meeting
on September 21st it was decided to have the October meeting on
October 12th instead of the 5th )
Tom Wilhelm moved we adjourn. Motion carried.

SHOW MEETING
We took a 10 minute break and the show meeting convened at 3:15 PM I do not
usually publish the Show minutes with the regular minutes, but decided to do it
this time.
Page 3
As of Friday, we had 190 room nights.
We have 79 banquet reservations. Ten vendors, 14 vendor tables. $225 has been
collected for competition entries. Two people are coming from Japan.
We will accept ads for our Program Book until September 15th.
This week, Carol will pick up the clip boards, which she has arranged to borrow.
Allan passed our copies of a financial report as of Friday, September 5th.
It appears that we are in good financial shape.
It was decided that all banquet tickets will be the same price. Bobbie will have
sample banquet tickets and name tags for us to vote on next week. She passed
around some black and white samples.
The centerpieces have been purchased.
The Leather Factory has been passing out our flyers and they put up a Show
poster. Bill Brown will call the newspaper. If they need something done by
Computer he will let Mark know and Mark will do it.
The Leathercrafters and Saddlers Journal sent out postcards advertising the
Show. Mark got in touch with Boy Scouts regarding the under 16 age contest and
class.
Tom Wilhelm, Roz Kaohn and Mary Ann Kunnig will do demonstrations on Saturday.
Allan said competition entries will be accepted from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM on
Friday the 26th.
Roz needs three more judges and one more scribe. She will need a list of entries
in competition. The runners need stick on tags. Only judges and scribes will be
allowed in the competition room.
Roz Kaohn, Head Judge, suggested that no pictures of entries be taken until
after the judging. Allan will talk to her about this. We expect only John Weese
be allowed to take pictures of the items as they come in, in order to have
pictures to show as winners are announced at the banquet. This will also show
the condition of items as they are entered.
Roz wants the frames for displaying the competition pictures to be set up
Thursday evening, but Ed Lucas does not want to come Thursday evening. Allan
will work on resolving this.
Ed Lucas says he will bring Place Cards for the competition entries.
Page 4
Bea Wayman and Anita ( ?) will be at the competition registration table. They
will need two more people to help there. At the registration table we will need
pens and list of people who have entered competition.
Allan will check with Wall Mart about marking the Best of Show Award.
Sandy gave Allan a list of proposed food for the judges and scribes.
The Hospitality Room will be open on Friday from 7 AM to 5:00 PM. It will
close at
\5:00 PM to get ready for the meal for the judges and scribes. It will be open
for only the judges and scribes from 6:00 to 6:45 PM. It will be open again from
7:00 to 11:00 PM Friday. It will be open again from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on
Saturday and from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Sunday.
There will be a free coffee bar in the hotel every morning from 8:00 to 10:00
AM.
People will be able to register for the show on Friday or Saturday.
Allan will find out for sure about paying the hotel.
There will be Show meetings at 2:00 PM on September 14 and again on September
21.
It was moved that we adjourn and everyone who can will stay and pack the goodie
bags. Motion carried.
A group of us stayed and packed goodie bags until we ran out of nearly
everything, except for pencils and maps. We will need to get a few more items to
finish the bags.
