===========================DUES ARE DUE=======================
Robin Johnson opened the meeting on Sunday, March 1, 2009, with a demonstration on belt making. He had made a holder, about 8 inches long, to hold the belt while he worked on it. After his demonstration several members shared additional belt making tips.
The demonstration was followed by the “show and tell” part of the meeting. Tom Putinsky showed a stamped belt he had just finished. It is black, finished with oil dye and sewed with a Pitman sewing machine. He used Chicago Screws on it. Allan Scheiderer showed several nice pieces he recently finished.

MINUTES OF THE BUSINESS PART OF THE MEETING

Eleven members attended the March BLCO meeting. The minutes of the January meeting were accepted as published. There was no February meeting because of the weather forecasts at that time.
David Scheiderer gave the Treasurer’s report. He has closed the Show Treasury and deposited that money into the regular treasury. It was moved and seconded that we accept the Treasurer’s report, pending audit. Motion carried.
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES:
Jim Starr and Allan Scheiderer, have not met to review the Constitution.
OLD BUSINESS
TREASURERS BOOKS: David Scheiderer is ready for the books to be audited. George Pittenger and Don Martin agreed to do it.
OHIO STATE FAIR: Mark Strain talked with Delilah Hetterscheidt, Assistant Director, Family Arts and Crafts, Ohio State Fair. She and the Director want to add four new divisions of leather work - for a total of five categories. They would like to have $33.00 of prize money for each category, for a total of $165.00. They asked if we would contribute $165.00 for leather prize money, instead of the $100.00 we have been giving.
They also want us to demonstrate at the Fair as many days as possible. They would like to discontinue the “Professional Division.” Then anybody would be eligible to enter until they have gotten four “Best of Show” Rosettes.
Robin moved that we add the extra $65.00 to our usual donation. Carol Martin seconded the motion. Robin suggested that we be allowed to display a placard saying that the leatherwork prizes were furnished by the Buckeye Leathercrafters of Central Ohio, and how to get in touch with us. Motion carried. June 20 is the Fair entry deadline.
BROWN BAG LUNCH PROJECT: This project was tabled for now.

THE SANTA MARIA PROJECT: Jay, Mark and George volunteered to be on a committee to meet with some of the Santa Maria Project people to find out what they need and bring back a report to the Guild so we can decide what we would be willing to do to help. Linda Kelcham is the Executive Director of the Santa Maria Project. Her phone number is 614-645-8760 and the address is 1111 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio, 43205. The secretary will contact her.
WORKSHOPS: Jay would like a workshop on stamping. Robin would like one on edging. Tom Putinsky asked how long a workshop would take. Allan said three hours. The last time we had a belt workshop, Allan got the belts for the workshop.
After some discussion it was decided that the first workshop, a belt workshop, will be on April 18 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. Allan asked members to let him know by the April meeting how many will be attending so he can get the belts. It was also decided to have a flea market on April 18th, the day of the workshop.
SERVICE PROJECTS: The Union County Humane Society would welcome dog collars.

* * *

It was mentioned that several members have excellent recordings of classes by top-notch leather artists on DVDs or tapes. Sometime we might get together to watch a recorded class, and then discuss it afterwards.
Allan will do the demonstration in April.
We will decide at the April meeting who will do the demonstration in May.
The upcoming show will be on April 24, 25 and 26. Rooms will be $89.00. Allan, Dave and Mark are planning to attend the show.
Allan asked how much we should contribute to the April show. Don moved that we contribute a cash prize of $50.00. Motion carried.
Mark said he will do the discs from our show, so they can be mailed.
Allan spoke with Johanna and she will update our website.
Allan read us a letter from a man who is in prison, who would like to have leather patterns so he and fellow prisoners can be doing leather work. Mark moved that we bring leather patterns we would be willing to donate to this prisoner’s rehab, to the April meeting. Motion carried. PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING LEATHER PATTERNS YOU ARE WILLING TO DONATE, to the April meeting.
Meeting Adjourned.

Don Martin will pay 50 cents for Indian Head pennies or three cents for any “wheat” pennies.
There was not a March Topcutter. Therefore, let us wish L. Jay Vannoy a belated Happy Birthday for his birthday on March 13.
I would like the birthdays of all of our new members.

DUES ARE DUE. $16.00 for a member, or $24.00 for a family membership.
Please let me know if your address, phone number, and e-mail address on the list I have is correct. I would like to have a new list ready to distribute at the May meeting.
